| Measles Cases Increase in DuPage County | Download Important Medical Forms* |
| There has been a recent increase in measles cases in the U.S. as well as in DuPage County, largely due to cases among under- or unvaccinated persons from the U.S. and abroad. To date this year, four cases of measles in DuPage County have been recently confirmed in school-age children from DuPage County. Due to the presence of measles in our community, we would like to provide you with some information to increase awareness, disease recognition and reporting, the importance of prevention through vaccination, and most importantly, to help control and prevent the spread of measles in the community. There is much more information available from the CDC and the DuPage Sounty Health Department. You can download a copy of the letter from the health department, or visit the CDC's website for more information. |

| New Health Requirements for 2008-2009 School Year | |
| There are new health requirements for Illinois that will be effective for the upcoming school year. Physical exams will no longer be required for 5th grade students, but will be required for 6th grade. Current 5th grade students will most likely not need a new physical for 6th grade if they had one completed within one year of starting the 2007-2008 school year, however this has not yet been officially approved. We will let you know once we receive the official approval. The second new law requires comprehensive eye exams for children entering kindergarten or enrolling for the first time in school. Children will be required to have the eye exam performed only by qualified eye doctors—such as optometrists and opthalmologists. The law requires the eye exam to take place within one year prior to starting kindergarten or entering school for the first time in Illinois. Proof of the eye exam must be submitted by October 15 of each school year. |
